Cindy Allen -President
Cindy Allen was raised on a horse farm in Central New York. She graduated and worked as a full charge bookkeeper for various companies. In 1985 she joined the Marines and served her country for 2 years. After leaving the military she was the office manager in California for a company that insured churches. In 1989 she met her husband, Dan, and moved to Tucson. Since 1989 she
has been self employed as a facilitator/caretaker/property manager in Tucson. In 1997, she and her husband moved to Benson. In 2011 she revamped the Benson Pony Express. In 2015 she joined
Benson Clean and Beautiful and is the current President. In 2016 she and her husband purchased a historic hotel and will be opening a museum, antique store and plant nursery. In 2018, they purchased the historic Zearings Mercantile on Main Street in Benson. They are reopening as it was before- a candy and antique store. She looks forward to being a part of the community for years to come.
Gay Spivey- Secretary
I was born and raised in Birmingham MI. I move to AZ to attend ASU in 1975. My husband Mike and I recently moved from Parks AZ to Benson AZ in June 2018. We just moved into our home in J6 and have met many great neighbors. I am an artist and a photographer. My career of 21 years has been in public transit management.
Being part of the Benson Clean & Beautiful Committee has allowed me to meet a lot of great people and learn much about the Benson area history. I look forward to staying involved with the Benson community.
After retiring from the business world, Lisa Hill began seeking other interests to keep her “young at heart” and traveled to Lake Placid, Florida in 2013 to attend clown school. She was amazed how beautiful outdoor murals had changed a dying town into a thriving tourist stop. Upon returning to Benson, Lisa approached George Scott, executive director of Southeast Arizona Economic
Development Group. He told her that the mural idea had been tried in 2004 with limited success and that Benson Clean & Beautiful (BC&B) needed a new dynamic leader. He asked her “When can you start?” Needless to say, Lisa’s career as a clown took a back seat to her passion of seeing outdoor art change Benson into a tourist destination, rather than a pass-through to other attractions. As president of BC&B at that time, Lisa engaged the services of a talented artist to assist in her dream. There are now more than 35 beautiful murals
showcasing the unique history and desert wildlife of Benson and southeastern Arizona. Lisa has worn many hats in her involvement with BC&B – it the beginning as Chairman, then as President, Secretary, and Treasurer. She currently holds the position as Treasurer, and continues to assist in day-to-day operations. She cheerfully shares her knowledge and expertise with incoming officers. She’s active in planning fundraising events, donor appreciation, and assisting the Second Vice President/Grant Writer in obtaining grants to help keep the organization strong.
Mary Jo Martin- Second Vice President
Mary Jo Martin was born in Bisbee, AZ, and graduated from Cochise
College and attended ASU. She’s been a telephone operator, cow milker
and finally came to Benson in 1986 and was the Health Inspector for the
Cochise County Health Department before retiring in 2007. She has
served on the Board of Directors for the San Pedro Valley Chamber of
Commerce and for the Benson chapter of the Business and Professional
Women’s Association. She now is serving as Second Vice-President and
Grant Coordinator for Benson Clean and Beautiful
